Turkey Sloppy Joes

For those of you who have never experienced sloppy joes, we can describe them as a delicious, saucy, deconstructed hamburger. Our recipe uses ground turkey but ground beef is classic. This is an adaptation of Matty Matheson’s famous sloppy joe recipe.”

Ingredients
1/4 cup grapeseed oil3 pounds ground turkey1 green bell pepper, finely diced1 red bell pepper, finely diced2 small yellow onions, finely diced1/4 cup Worcestershire1 tablespoon garlic powder1 tablespoon chili powder1 tablespoon paprika1/3 cup yellow mustard1 cup ketchup1 cup tomato sauce Pepper to taste Salt to taste

Get Organized!

Gather your mis en place; get together all of the equipment needed for the recipe and gather your ingredients.

Get Prepped!

Finely dice the onion, red pepper, and green pepper.

Measure out the grapeseed oil, turkey, worcestershire, garlic powder, chili powder, paprika, ketchup, mustard, and tomato sauce.

Get Cooking!

Add the oil to the frying pan over medium high heat. Begin to cook the onions, stirring frequently until softened, about 3 minutes. Add the bell peppers and continue to cook another 2 – 3 minutes.

Add the ground turkey, and continue to cook until the meat is cooked through, about 8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Add the rest of the ingredients, the spices, tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard and worcestershire and let simmer about 10 minutes. They mixture should be reduced so that the meat is saucy but not too loose.

Adjust seasoning as needed, and serve on hamburger buns.
