Detroit Style Pizza Dough

This recipe makes the perfect Detroit style pizza dough. Because one pizza is rarely enough, this pizza dough recipe makes enough for two pizzas, and can be made in a stand mixer at home, or mixed by hand.

Gather all your ingredients and equipment before you get started!

Get Prepped!

Measure out your flour, water, salt, yeast, and oil. Add the water, oil, and yeast to the bowl of the stand mixer and let the yeast bloom, approximately 5 minutes.

Add the salt and the flour, and mix on the lowest speed of the stand mixer for 1 – 2 minutes until dough is combined.

Turn the mixer up to medium speed and mix for 12 minutes.

Transfer the dough to a large clean bowl with and spread a small amount of oil in the bowl to prevent the dough from cooking. Cover the dough with plastic wrap.

Let the dough rise for 2 hours, until roughly doubled in size. Punch the dough down and divide it into two pieces. Round each piece of dough into a ball, and let rest another 30 minutes, covered with a clean cloth for using. If not using immediately, transfer the dough to the fridge and remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before using.
