If you coordinate summer programming for London Children’s Connection, the YMCA, or another camp serving children ages 4 – 6, we’d love to come visit you!

What to expect: Based of our popular Kindergarten Kitchen program offered to teachers throughout the school year, we are thrilled to now offer Summer Kitchen to local day camps, so that your campers can explore food and food waste in a fun and engaging way! Our team of gardeners, chefs or educators will come right to your camp, bringing with us all the equipment, ingredients and supplies necessary to deliver a fun, hands-on, experiential food education lesson. Campers will have fun making salsa and guacamole to enjoy with tortilla chips. While they enjoy eating their snack, campers will learn how to ​“reuse their foods” and regrow the green onions ends and avocado pits they used in the recipe (these can be grown in a window afterwards as a fun science experiment). We will also bring with us our portable worm composter to learn where the rest of our food scraps go. The lesson ends with a relaxing plant stretch to wrap everything up.

Date and time: Each class is 1 hour in length, exact times to be chosen by the coordinator of the camp. 

Sessions are available for groups of 20 – 30 campers, and larger camps can schedule up to three sessions in one day. 

Ages: Campers ages from 4 – 6. At this time, this program is limited to camps in London and the surrounding area only. 

Pricing: $10/​camper. For Camp Coordinators that anticipate financial barriers to having campers participate, please contact christy@​growingchefsontario.​ca to explore subsidy options.

Food Allergies: Our team is highly experienced in managing dietary restrictions. Do not let a dietary concern prevent a camper from participating in our programming. Get in contact with our staff team and we’ll do our best to make appropriate accommodations.
