Umami Mushroom and Black Bean Burgers

Umami is the mystery sense; an indescribable deliciousness that leaves you wanting more. This burger recipe is one of the best burgers you’ll ever taste. Mushrooms are one of the most umami rich foods and they are perfect with other umami foods such as tomato and roasted garlic.

Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil1/2 pound mushroom sliced1 tablespoon soy sauce1 tablespoon nutritional yeast1 tablespoon tomato paste1 tablespoon roasted garlic1/2 teaspoon black pepper1 can of black beans1 egg1 cup oats salt to taste

Get Organized

Gather your mis en place; get together all of the equipment needed for the recipe and gather your ingredients.

Get Prepped!

Thinly slice the mushrooms and set aside.

Measure out oats and place in the bowl of the food processor. Pulse the oats until ground into a flour, and set aside.

Measure out olive oil separately. In another bowl, measure out soy sauce, nutritional yeast, tomato paste, roasted garlic, and black pepper.

Get Cooking!

Preheat a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil, and the mushrooms. Season with salt to taste.

Saute the mushrooms until cooked through and starting to brown about 5 minutes.

Transfer the mushrooms to the bowl of a food processor with black beans, tomato paste, soy sauce, nutritional yeast, roasted garlic, and black pepper. Mix together to form a thick paste.

Mix the mushroom mixture with oats, and form into 6 patties. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Cook in a 400°F oven for 1520 minutes until warmed through.
