Growing Chefs! Ontario will be catering and facilitating three free community meals and eco-education events in Queens Park. Each meal will be themed around what is growing locally and seasonally. Families are invited to explore Queens Park and its surrounding gardens with fun garden-themed activities!
These events are funded through a City of London Neighbourhood Decision Making Grant, and the menus will incorporate all of the amazing seasonal ingredients sold at The Market at Western Fair District
Community meals will be held monthly over the summer and will feature a different menu each month, highlighting what is growing locally and seasonally. Families are welcome to attend one, two or all three community events!
Join us for a morning of community, learning and FUN!
Date: Saturday, June 17, July 29 and August 19, 2023
Time: 11AM to 1PM
Location: Queens Park, located in behind the The Market at Western Fair District, can be accessed through the backdoors of the market. Plan your route ahead for the construction with parking directions here.
Queens Park has a splash pad, so bring your bathing suits to keep the family fun going all afternoon long!
Price: FREE! Free community meals will be provided for the first 50 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Garden activities will be available all morning.
*Registration is NOT required to attend*
Menus: Community meals menus will be shared closer to each event, based on what is in season. Check back on this webpage closer to the dates.
Children’s activities:
All dates will include a sensory exploration activity and offer food forest and garden tours!
Saturday, June 17 – Plant your own pollinator plant to take home! Choose from marigolds or calendula to attract butterflies and bees to your home garden.
Saturday, July 29 – Come along on a harvest scavenger hunt to explore the food forests and gardens of Queens Park!
Saturday, August 19 – Make your own DIY seed ball with native pollinator seeds to plant in the fall!
