Hello friends!

My name is Cori, and I'm SO excited to be blogging for Growing Chefs! Ontario - I hope you'll follow along as we talk about all of the exciting things going on with Growing Chefs over the next few weeks and months!  I thought it would be fun to tell you a little bit about me, and WHY I'm so excited to be part of this organization....

I love to cook, I love to create, and more than that, I LOVE to eat. To be honest, nothing used to make me happier than a fast food hamburger until the day I discovered my mad skills in the kitchen.  Now, nothing makes my tummy happier than to stay in and whip something up with amazing, fresh (and local when I can get them!) ingredients.  I am constantly sharing my passion for nom-noms with friends and family and really just anyone who will listen (that now includes YOU, dear reader!), and I wanted to get involved with an organization who shared my values and hardcore LOVE.

I can't wait to share with you, and I hope you'll share with ME the things YOU love about food/cooking/events/and most importantly... Growing Chefs!

Now down to business, I want to talk about this really cool thing that a group of people from Old East Village are doing...

The Old East Village (OEV) have a runners group who are "Doin' It for Growing Chefs! Ontario" with the EXCEPTIONAL goal of raising a whopping $5000 for our programs.   We know they can do it, and boy are we grateful!
We spoke with Melodie of the OEV runners group, who, while not technically a runner herself, wanted to find a way to get out, get involved, and make a difference.  She, and other runners in the group, couldn't pass up an opportunity to have fun by FUNdraising for Growing Chefs!

Melodie, a resident of the OEV, has a personal connection with Growing Chefs!  There are over 100 children in her neighbourhood who attend a French language school, L'Academie de la Tamise, and one of those children next year will be Melodie's 5 year old.  The OEV runners want to help bring Growing Chefs! there so the children will have the opportunity to learn and grow in the kitchen; and all of the runners are supporters, parents, volunteers, and/or neighbours.
The OEV runners believe in the GCO mission and philosophy.  They believe it's important to get involved in the community, and to make a difference.  They believe that a great reason to support our programs is to get kids excited, empower them with the knowledge and understanding to work in the kitchen, use kitchen tools, and to give the kids some control over what they are eating. Melodie said it best.  Growing Chefs! is giving kids "confidence, efficancy and excitement. To be a capable individual in the world is such a big deal for a child."
And isn't that just perfect?
If you'd like to donate to the OEV Runners (tax receipts available), please check out this link below:
...and definitely check out their Facebook group for updates and photos from this fun-loving group on their road (pun intended) to the Forest City Road Race - 5 kms and 10 kms on April 27, 2014!!
Until next time!
