HQ closed for 2020

Friday, September 4, 2020

After recent and thorough discussions with the local Health Unit and careful discussions within our own team, we have decided not to re-open HQ for the foreseeable future. We have decided that it wouldn't be possible to offer the same amazing quality experiences that guests have come to expect from us, or be able to keep our price points accessible, while ensuring we meet all required safety protocols.

This decision was a hard one, and will be reassessed in the new year. Our hope is to rebuild and reopen when it is completely safe to do so. With this closing, we have lost the ability to generate our own revenue through events which has always been one of the strongest elements of our social enterprise.

Like so many others in our community over the past months, Growing Chefs! Ontario has been forced to pivot our business model. At the same time, we have heard resoundingly from our education partners that a virtual Growing Chefs! Ontario program is both needed and wanted! The events of the past few months have resoundingly shown us that there has never been a more important time to invest in food education and in strengthening our food systems.

The COVID-19 pandemic has helped us uncover an opportunity to set broad provincial targets to reach more children, youth and families through the development of virtual programming. Our education team has risen to the call and is dedicated to bringing you engaging and informational new digital content.

Our goal is to evolve Growing Chefs! Ontario to become the intellectual, media and creative centre for food education programming in the province! We recognize the size and scope of this goal, but we feel that this is the outcome of all of the work we’ve put in over the past twelve years and we are tremendously excited to see it come to life!

In order to achieve this lofty goal, we do still need your help!

Monthly donors have the potential to become the foothold of our organization, and there has never been a better time to become a donor. A monthly donation of only $5 or $10 will help us tremendously through this difficult transition.

Growing Chefs! Ontario was built on community grassroots support and we are confident that our community will recognize the importance of the work we do and help us navigate the path forward during these challenging times.

As always, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for all you continue to do to lift us, and we can’t wait to see you again soon.

We wish you all the best and hope you are staying safe and well during these unprecedented times.
