Food Systems Map

At Growing Chefs! Ontario we believe the best way to learn about and explore food is through in person, hands on, experiential learning. Unfortunately this option is not available to us currently, so we have been hard at work adapting our programming to help students continue to engage with food in meaningful ways without preparing and sharing food together. After all, food is still an effective vehicle for applying skills learned in the classroom in many subject areas including math, science, literacy, history, geography, health and even art to our day to day lives!

You can find our new Lesson Plans and virtual resources at: growingchefsontario.ca/lessonplans

  • These new Lesson Plans are designed to offer safe ways to continue learning about food while teachers and students are navigating at home and in school adjusted learning structures.

  • Lesson Plans are organized by theme, each theme has several lesson plans and associated resources, including videos.

  • Please feel free to adapt, change, and modify any of our lessons/activities to work best for your students.

  • Growing Chefs! has also created a series of Instructional Recipe Videos specifically for children as well as resources to help parents/grown ups to follow along at home.

  • Each Lesson Plan will contain links to suggested Recipe Videos that students can use as optional follow-up or extension activities at home. The videos are all posted on our youtube kids channel and are free to access.

There is no cost to using these lessons/resources, but we do ask that after using any of the lessons or activities/resources that you please fill out our feedback survey.

Your feedback will help us to ensure these lessons suit the needs of educators, parents, and most importantly students. It also assists with our reporting to our funders, who have helped to ensure these lessons/activities/resources are free to access for anyone interested. We thank you in advance for your assistance.

Feedback surveys can be completed in under 10 minutes, the link can be found on growingchefsontario.ca/lessonplans

If you have any questions, comments, or feedback that cannot be easily expressed through the survey please feel free to email info@growinchefsontario.ca at any time!

What comes next?

We have several lessons, activities, videos currently in the final stages of development. They  will be uploaded on a bi-weekly basis starting next week. We will continue to refine and develop lessons throughout the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.

Thank you again for your time and feedback, we cannot describe how impactful and meaningful your support is at this time.
