Describe a memorable moment while volunteering with us.

Memorable moment was during a food frenzy session with a Grade 8 class last fall. At first I noticed  the boys seemed unsure of what to expect and were quiet and reserved.  By the end of the food preparation one of the boys stood up with his chef hat on, raised his hand in the air and said "this was fun and I am now a chef". A successful day!

Is there a new skill that you were able to develop or perfect? For example; how to cook, teach, lead, organize, etc.

I learn a new skill each time I volunteer as it is a learning process for me as well. I always focus on teaching the group in a fun and safe way so that they get excited about cooking and their ability to do it themselves.

Why do you volunteer with GC?

I volunteer with GC because I believe in the whole concept and philosophy of the amazing service they are providing for our youth. The importance and necessity of educating children about healthy eating and cooking makes me proud to be part of this organization. I love it!

What are your hobbies, passions, interests?

Pilates has been my niche for my regular exercise for about 11 years now. I also love bike riding, line dancing, reading and my 6 grandchildren bring me so much joy as well.

What is your favourite food?

I like to start every day off with my smoothie that is packed with so much nutrition to give my body and mind the head start it needs. Fruits, vegetables, almond butter, turmeric, coconut water, ground flax seeds, etc. So yummy.

What does food education mean to you?

Food education means healthier and happier children. It is a pay it forward event that can and does change the way we eat and grow our food.
